Wallace and Gromit will feature on a new 2019 UK coin!

Everybody knows that the moon is made of cheese, but did you know that a new Wallace and Gromit coin will be available very soon in Scarborough?

Now a famous British icon, 2019 marks 30 years since the eccentric characters Wallace & Gromit, who were first introduced to us in the film, ‘A Grand Day Out’ in 1989 .

Created by Aardman Animations, this claymation series has achieved widespread popularity worldwide,
and to celebrate their 30 year anniversary, The Royal Mint have chosen to commemorate both Wallace & Gromit on this 2019 edition of the brilliant uncirculated 50p coin. The obverse features these two wonderful characters looking through the porthole of the rocket that once transported them to the moon. The latin inscription ‘CASEUS PRAESTANS’ around the edge of the coin translates to ‘Cracking Cheese’, the well known phrase from the series.

Issued in partnership with Aardman Animations and designed by Wallace and Gromit creator Nick Park, this brand new UK 50p is certain to prove exceptionally popular with coin collectors and fans alike.

Nicola Howell, director of the consumer division at The Royal Mint, added: “Wallace and Gromit are two of Britain’s most loved characters, so we felt it was only right that we marked this momentous anniversary by giving them a place on UK coinage.

“The films are such a huge part of our popular culture and are loved by generations of all ages, so we’re delighted that we can be a part of the 30th anniversary celebrations.”

Available soon, this brand new 2019 UK 50p is a commemorative issue only – you will not find it in your change.

Soon to be available at Scarborough Collectables in the Scarborough Market Vaults.
