Now a famous British icon, 2019 marks 30 years since the eccentric characters Wallace & Gromit, who were first introduced to us in the film, ‘A Grand Day Out’ in 1989 .
Created by Aardman Animations, this claymation series has achieved widespread popularity worldwide,
and to celebrate their 30 year anniversary, The Royal Mint have chosen to commemorate both Wallace & Gromit on this 2019 edition of the brilliant uncirculated 50p coin. Nicola Howell, director of the consumer division at The Royal Mint, added: “Wallace and Gromit are two of Britain’s most loved characters, so we felt it was only right that we marked this momentous anniversary by giving them a place on UK coinage.
“The films are such a huge part of our popular culture and are loved by generations of all ages, so we’re delighted that we can be a part of the 30th anniversary celebrations.”
